Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 – Best Detailed Review

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is known for its quality and affordability. Samsung’s cheap tablets have consistently delivered value despite having weaker processors and fewer features than the Galaxy Tab S line. Samsung has redesigned its inexpensive Android tablet, but is its beauty more than skin deep? Let’s find out  –

In mid-December 2021, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab A8 for mid-January 2022. It replaces 2020’s superb Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 with several essential visual modifications. Internal upgrades include switching from Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets to Unisoc Tiger T618 processors.

Samsung’s latest display is 10.5 inches compared to the Galaxy Tab A7’s 10.4. It has 16:10 media streaming and gently rounded corners. The power button and volume rocker are on a thin plastic strip on the metal tablet. There are three colors Gray, Silver, and Pink Gold available.

The base Galaxy Tab A8 has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, extendable through microSD to 1TB while the US has up to 128GB of inbuilt storage.

Design of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8-

The new design looks like a current Samsung Galaxy. Despite its expense, the revamped camera and updated color options provide a seamless ecosystem. Even though it’s heavier than a plastic tablet, the metal build feels superior.

However, the plastic power button and volume rocker strip seem weird. The plastic is inferior to the metal, and the seam is noticeable.

Tablet users may also need time to acclimatize to its shape. Coming from a square iPad, the 16:10 ratio can be hard to hold. Once you acclimatize to using the Galaxy Tab A8 in landscape position, its media-streaming features shine. The central selfie camera in the extended bezel indicates that Samsung wants you to use the tablet in landscape.

Samsung’s cheapest tablets still lack fingerprint readers. Since its predecessor didn’t have one, you’ll have to use software-based protection. Facial recognition works hands-free but isn’t secure. Holding such a large display makes tracing your pattern or entering in a PIN difficult.

Display of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 –

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A8 was made for media streaming. The 10.5-inch LCD screen’s 1,920 x 1,200 resolution is good for most uses. Unlike phones, tablets don’t have quicker refresh rates unless you spend more.

The huge 16:10 panel is ideal for streaming services. The Lighthouse, which was shot in 1.19:1, may not look as well, but more traditionally shot series and movies will. The four-sided bezels are very nice. They’re sturdy yet hardly apparent.

Samsung’s display leans blue in daily use, which is my main complaint. Apps with white backgrounds reveal it more, whereas watching TV or movies hides it. The brightness didn’t change the hue either. Samsung offers color correction options for color blindness, however, they don’t fix blueness.

Battery life details of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8-

Samsung touts the Galaxy Tab A8’s 7,040mAh battery but doesn’t make any outrageous claims regarding its battery life. To power the 10.5-inch display all day, it takes a hefty cell.

Web browsing, social media, and streaming services dominated. Binge-watching Netflix would drain the battery faster than skimming through Google News, but I could go two days between charges with sensible use. I tested the Wi-Fi-only model. LTE-enabled choices may perform poorly if you spend a lot of time without Wi-Fi.

15W peak speed is the battery and charging setup’s only downside. I charged 20% in 45 minutes and a full battery in almost four hours. Samsung includes a charger and USB-C connector in the box, so you won’t have to spend extra to get back up.

We can’t criticize 15W tablet charging speeds because you’re probably not in a rush. You probably only use a tablet occasionally, unlike a smartphone that needs to be charged.

Performance of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8-

At the start of my testing, Samsung’s choice of the Unisoc Tiger T618 processor—a lesser-known chipset maker—alarmed me. I worried about its performance compared to Qualcomm alternatives, especially the Galaxy Tab A7’s Snapdragon 662. All those concerns were swiftly dispelled. Though it would struggle in demanding games, the Tiger purred through whatever I wanted it to perform.

Streaming video, switching apps, and opening numerous apps worked fine. Light gaming should work, but if you want to play Genshin Impact or Call of Duty: Mobile on a bigger screen, it won’t compare to more expensive options. When I started the Galaxy Tab A8, the Tiger T618 stuttered, but it was probably set up blues. After two days of idleness, the tablet occasionally stutters, but it usually goes away after a few seconds.

Samsung’s fundamental RAM and storage will fail before the processor. Idle apps quickly run out of RAM with 3GB. If you want to download a series for binge-watching, 32GB may be too little. If you want to use the tablet for more than surfing and streaming, get a 4GB RAM model. You can always add up to 1TB of storage using the microSD card.

Pros of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8–

  • Aluminum body.
  • Good battery life.
  • Has a dedicated MicroSD slot.
  • 80% screen-to-body.

Cons of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8–

  • The rear camera is not great.
  • Slow charger in the box.
  • Speakers lose quality with volume.
  • Laggy on multitasking.
  • No S pen support.

Conclusion –

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 didn’t need to improve on its outstanding predecessor. This tablet is well-made and ideal for media streaming. Apps, images, and games should fit on the expanded storage. It would be wonderful to see a longer commitment to Android version updates, but the two Android versions match other budget Android tablets, and the four years of security beats any non-Apple tablet.

The tablet’s large footprint takes some getting used to, but once you open Netflix or YouTube, the 16:10 display with the minimum black area on any side makes it a favorite. Dolby Atmos speakers outperform their pricing.

The Galaxy Tab A8’s cameras aren’t great, but we can’t imagine anyone using them for photography. The Unisoc Tiger T618 processor isn’t great for gaming, but it’s great for Wordle.

If you’ve been waiting to test an Android tablet and looking for a reliable, reasonable alternative, this is it. It’s perfect for kids or the whole family.
